App Design

*This case study was done as part of Dribbble’s 16-week Product Design Certification Course.

We live in a consumerism world and this is a problem.

It’s a problem for our planet, for you, me and everyone else. Products used to be made to last a long time, and repaired when they eventually broke. People thought over their purchases thoroughly and invested in quality products they could rely on. It’s now become an instant, impulse buy, throw away society.

This system is failing us, and we need to return more to a circular society.

There are several existing borrowing/sharing ideas taking off which is a move in the right direction: library of stuff, the thingery, apps such as  Streetbank.  Problem is, since COVID these business models are slowing down and they are not for everybody. These platforms don’t help businesses either.

Let’s go a step further. What if you could try out the things that you need before you purchased them? Or simply borrowed and returned. What if you could shop the way you normally do, but TRY before you BUY?  You can with TRYBUY.

Could this be a solution?

Businesses can make money and have another avenue to promote their products. This holds companies accountable to making quality products again while consumers have the ability to borrow what they need and invest in quality when they are ready.

Research

My research phase included diving into existing platforms for borrowing/sharing and seeing what it is they lack.

Research also included going through existing ‘spread the cost’ platforms such as Laybuy and Afterpay, taking the best parts of these replicating and improving on them.

Building the idea

I then worked on bringing the trybuy idea to life. From a name, to user flows, to the brand and UI.

Being the thinker and a problem solver I am, I really enjoyed creating this project. My intentions are to go further… watch this space!
