Dog Walking App

*This case study was done as part of Dribbble’s 16-week Product Design Certification Course.

Goal

The goal of this project was to research, design and create a dog walking/sitting app that is a better all round product from other apps on the market.

Role

In this project my role was a product designer.  I worked on everything from interviewing dog owners, analysing existing platforms, compiling said findings and coming up with ideas for solutions to consumer pain points. I created a persona to identify more closely with the consumer and expand these ideas. I was then able to work on designing a logo and brand which rolled out into a finished working prototype or MVP.

Consumer Pain Points

• Through the research phase, I learned the owners biggest challenge with dog walking/pet sitting is finding someone they can trust.

• 100% of those interviewed said their dogs got very anxious when they are away and this worried them.

User Flow & Personas

I wanted to have this product go about things differently comparing with existing apps. In most applications the user first has to signup and enter all their personal information. To help gain trust, I wanted to allow the user access to app before committing to signing up.

Design Phase

I wanted to create a brand that was fun (reflecting our furry friends) whist also incorporating a more serious nature around the brand to allow users to automatically gain a sense of trust. Below are some images of my mood board, wire framing and early design explorations.

Prototyping

Here I created a working prototype to test on users. Some users said it felt more like a website rather than a mobile app, whilst others completed the task easily. Based on the feedback I made some tweaks to the functionality of the navigations and made pricing, reviews and distance markers visually easier to understand.

Outcome

Throughout this project I learned valuable knowledge on the importance of user research, seeing the product through the users eyes and testing the product with real users. Taking the time to stop and see your works through a different lens helps to reflect and improve upon your product whilst you are making it. This then results in an exceptional product you know your users will love.
